For the extension student who wants a bigger taste of what life with other Harvard Extension students is like, combining the Degree Tracker and the extension student forum can foster that sense of community that others have on campus. Another advantage of participating in an online community over the Harvard campus is that extension students can develop permanent relationships with other extension students that being on a physical campus might not necessarily allow, since online students are great at staying in touch online.

    We'd be glad to hear your feedback.     The harvard extension now i'm kicking myself thread

    I was just inspired to start this thread as i hopefully near graduation. I'm interested in regrets.
    One big one for me is not having taken a class taught by Niall Ferguson and offered online. It had nothing to do with my ALM in IT, but what was I thinking!!?

      Well, now you've got me thinking -- as someone about to become a degree candidate and begin this journey, who are some other professors whose HES courses are not to be missed?

      Well, that course was a Harvard college course that happened to open up to extension. Pretty cool.
      There was another, Robert Kegan, adult education. I bought and read the books, then took a different course. This did apply to my degree. Now I don't see it.

      Note Justice was Michael Sandel. Lawrence Lessig taught internet and society.

      I'm not sure I regret much about the ALM program, but there are a few things I would recommend for a new student:

      • Look into financial aid. I've heard of candidates getting scholarships just for applying, regardless of income.
      • Attend as many events as possible and spend more time on campus. I've heard the three and seven week summer sessions, living in the dorm and eating dinners at Annenberg, is a great experience.
      • Take more Harvard College classes through HES, e.g., CS50, Visualization, etc.
      • Start HES today. I wish I would have started HES twenty years ago.

      I agree. That was my thought. If you are just starting, perhaps those of us who are almost finished can offer up some of the experiences we wish we hadnt missed:)

      Of course this is $1000 and i did a few such weekends at Oxford and i think maybe i spent $1300 to 1400 including the weekend course, flight, and housing!
