It has been created and run by 100% completely different leadership. For the extension student who wants a bigger taste of what life with other Harvard Extension students is like, combining the Degree Tracker and the extension student forum can foster that sense of community that others have on campus. Another advantage of participating in an online community over the Harvard campus is that extension students can develop permanent relationships with other extension students that being on a physical campus might not necessarily allow, since online students are great at staying in touch online.

    Intro to Quantitative Methods with Dr. Parzen

    I want to take his "Introduction to Quantitative Methods" class this summer. I met someone last summer who said he was really challenging but didn't say why. RMP says he's great but only from a handful of reviews.

    Also I'll be taking it via distance because I have an internship so I'll be balancing his courseload with a job. Given his amount of work, is this recommended?

      Took this class last summer. I thought Dr. Parzen was a great instructor, and injected life and humor into what is a pretty boring subject. In addition to the lectures, you'll have a mid-term and final exam, and weekly graded homework assignments. Those took me about 1-2 hours to complete each week and I never got less than a perfect score on them. I work full time and never felt like I didn't have enough time for class. The curve on the mid-term and final was EXTREMELY generous so I believe many people had difficulties with them, but I didn't find them too challenging if you paid attention to his lectures.
      I enjoyed the class and professor and would recommend it.

      I took this last summer too. It was my most challenging class but probably the most rewarding. With multiple lectures per week you can't ease into it (as I did) else you will get left behind. Parzen was awesome. I struggled all summer playing catch up but he provides all the past midterms and finals - going through these multiple times finally made it all click for me as I could see which questions translated to specific formulas. He allows heaps of notes to be taken to the exam room as well. If you've done any stats before then it will be easy for you.
